Using the Find and Go to functions

The Alignment editor's Find function is used to locate subsequences in an alignment.  The Go to function is used to move the caret to a position in a sequence or in the alignment.  Both of these functions apply to the current sequence (the sequence that contains the input focus).

To use the Find function:

  • Select Find from the Edit menu. The Find dialog will be displayed.
  • Enter the desired position in the Find what edit field.
  • Choose Up to search upstream of the current position.
  • Choose Down to search downstream of the current position.
  • Press OK. If the subsequence is found, it will be highlighted and the Alignment view will be scrolled to make the subsequence visible.

To use the Go to function

  • Select Go to from the Edit menu. The Go to dialog will be displayed.
  • Enter the desired position in the Go to edit field.
  • Choose Position in the current sequence to move the caret to a sequence position excluding gaps.
  • Choose Alignment column to move the caret to a given column in the alignment.
  • Press OK.  If necessary, the Alignment view will be scrolled to make the new location visible.
