Setting sequence protections

Sequences in the Alignment editor can be locked, or protected from edits.  When you try to edit a locked sequence, an error message is displayed.  The padlock icon next to the sequence name indicates the protection level.  A red closed padlock indicates that the sequence is locked; a green open padlock indicates that the sequence is not locked.  Sequences can be locked or unlocked as a group or individually.

To toggle the lock state for all sequences:

  • Select the Sequence menu.
  • Select Protections.
  • Select Allow all edits to unlock all sequences, or No edits to lock all sequences.

To toggle the lock state for an individual sequence:
Click on the padlock icon to toggle the lock state.  If you get an error message stating that "Toggling protections for individual sequences is disabled", you must enable individual protections as follows:

  • Select the Sequence menu.
  • Select Protections.
  • Select Allow individual protections.
